Haloo... Guys... Time goes so fast without we realize it...

It's hard to say that our Discussion has come to the conclusion...

But, it doesn't mean that we have to stop from giving ideas about this issue...

Suffice to say, the research on social ills that occurred in Malaysia concerning illegal street racing had been successfully carried on. This research as had been mentioned earlier had successfully achieved its objectives and also had answered all of the research questions that arise at the beginning of the research. By conducting this research, students become clearer and understand in detail when talking about illegal street racing, in terms of its definition, people who involves in this activity, the cause and effect of illegal street racing and last not list the measurements taken by the authority to oppose this social problem and their effectiveness.

In other words, it resolves all the confusion that misted up regarding this dilemma. Indirectly, this project also generates the awareness and catches the eye of the students and others towards the social issue like illegal street racing. As we can see before this people might not think that this issue can become serious if there is no action taken by the authority and responsible parties, by doing this research hope that it will open the eyes of the readers about this topic.

What will happen if nobody care about it???

Whoa! Seems like everyone is busy packing their stuff and get prepared for the Hari Raya break... Hold on just a second. Let's take a look into the last discussion question which is "What will happen if there is no action taken by the authority to counter this problem?"

As the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays are drawing nearer, the numbers of vehicles pouring onto our highways are getting larger each day. In order to ensure a smooth traffic so that Malaysians go home safely to celebrate the festive season, 1,800 enforcers have been stationed to monitor the operation of long-distance coaches. Besides stepping up patrol along the highways, the fourth annual "Operation Attitude" has also been launched beginning the fasting month which is on September 1st 2008.

In fact, the police have erected temporary posts along the highways to monitor the traffic flow in a bid to reduce the occurrence of road accidents so that all road users can go home safely to celebrate their Raya. As for the illegal street racers, this season would be the best time of year to arrange for their activity.

Could you guys imagine what the consequences will be if there is no action taken by the authority? Of course it will create heavy masses in the traffic especially during this festive season. In addition to doing their stunts and racing around, they have a habit of causing public disorder. They usually travel in large groups and at times raid isolated petrol stations. They can cordon off normal traffic flow to allow their friend race along a predetermined circuit.

Furthermore, Street racers are not professional drivers and have never been formally trained. There is no chance for them to practice. They rely on their limited experience at high speeds and their adrenaline to get them through the race. Also, their vehicles have been modified beyond the manufacturers’ standards and engineering specs. The result of a racer pushing the capabilities of his or her vehicle can be a blown engine or a ton of sheet metal hurtling out of control into a crowd. And the crowd is often way too close to the marked course of the race and not behind any protective barriers.

Consequently, vehicle crashes at street races cause injuries to drivers, passengers, spectators, and even innocent bystanders. When this problem take place what would be the next dilemma to the road users? The answer is in you, think about it deeply.

Hm..its been a long time since my last post here…and yeah..finally we’ve reach the last question of our discussion..hm..what will happen if the authority does not take appropriate measures to prevent this illegal street racing. What do you think will happen?

In my opinion, if the authority do not take steps to prevent this illegal act and just let it be lot of negative impacts will occur. These impacts include impacts towards society and our own beloved country. One of the impacts that in my opinion will occur is that it will tarnish the country’s image. This is because when the foreign tourists come to visit this country, they might witness our youngsters involved in an illegal act freely and without any fear, they might start to think that this country law enforcement is at low level. Not only this kind of thinking will tarnish the country’s image but also the image of our law enforcers.

Moreover, this problem will also raise a fear among other road users in the country. This is because they will become afraid of their own safety due to a dangerous action of these illegal racers that I have mention in my previous posts regarding the way these racers riding or driving their vehicle. Not only that, it will also raise tension and dissatisfaction among the road users concerning these matters and it might cause a clash between these illegal racers and other road users. No action taken means that these illegal racers will become more bold in doing their illegal activities and it is terrified that they might widen their activities by not only racing but might also regarding snatching especially illegal motorcycle racers that need money to upgrade their motorcycle to challenge other racers.

Another negative impact that might occur is that it might influence the country’s economical condition negatively. This is because, like I mention before the tourists will have a negative perspective towards our country. When they return to their country they will speak about the negative aspect of our country concerning our country law enforcement agency that for them cannot guarantee their safety while visiting this country to other people. This of course will make other tourist that plan to visit this country reconsider their plan and might call off their plan of visiting Malaysia. This will reduce the number of tourists that visit this country and will affect the tourism sectors badly. When this happen, the government income will be reduce and affect the government’s financial position. Hm.. I think that’s all for now..we’ll meet again in my future posts…whacha……….

Yeah!!! Last question, finally…-haih-

After answering this last question, that’s mean we finally fulfill our group
objectives based on Social Ills: Illegal Street Racing.

For the last question: What will ensue if there is no action taken by the authorities to oppose the problem?

The answer: People know that authority is important to straighten the justice and law of the country. But there also people who did not care about justice at all. They think that authority is a waste of time and they can live without authority at all as long as they life as the way they are.

What if there were many illegal street racer rooming our country street without limit? They do all bad thing including committing crime such as robbery and bag snatching. They may also committing heavy crime like killing. Other thing that may involve illegal street racer is drug addiction. Our country may become a criminal-born country.

Society normal lifestyle also may be affected, it may make them afraid to get out from house for maybe they confront with illegal street racer who would harm them and their family. Now day, many cases involved illegal street racer reported that involved society such as house breaking and their vehicle being broken because they make the illegal street racer angry. Many cases involving heavy crime could not be solved if there is no authority taking action to oppose the problem.

Vandalism also may occur if there no action taken by the authority to oppose illegal street racing. Teenagers may be reported have involved in illegal street racing and other unhealthy activities. Crime percentages become higher. Family could not control their children anymore because they got involved in illegal street racing and no action being taken by higher ranked people to solve the problem.

As a conclusion, I think authority play an important role to help heal our country from becoming a place of unhealthy activities like illegal street racing taking place.

Hello and hey again...

It's me again, Mohd Shaffi Bin Mahadi (A124280).... Since there is nobody have post the next question I would like to be the first one for this time...The next question is what will ensue if there is no action taken by the authorities to oppose the problem?

That is not a tricky question and everybody could answer it. Well, thing is going to be from bad to worst. Since there is no one that is going to take actions against them, of course they will feel like they are the king of the world....plus they will be more people get hurt and riots will happens everywhere...Since for now, even though police are patrolling, they are brave enough to act like a gangsters in the road. It shows that police are not a major threat to them. Time after time, they will eventually grow into a larger group where their activity is not only centralized on the activity of racing merely but also on other crimes such as extortion, murder and even rape..

Who could know what their boundaries are...If they could risk their life by doing acts that might kill themselves what is the assurance they will not start killing people instead if there is no one to stop them.... Police or other authorities should open their eyes and start taking measure that is truly effective in countering this problem..

They should not put it aside and just wait till it becomes more serious and at that time only when they will get on the actions. As I’ve said, it is not merely their faults. It is because the society do not stress on this problem. So, the politicians don't see that they would have to bother about this problem at least for now...If we want it to be annihilate, we should give more pressures to the government and the government will pass that pressure to their subordinates and by then only this problem can be taken seriously...

In the previous session we’ve discussed about the effectiveness of the measurements taken by the authority to reduce the “Illegal Street Racing”. Today, in this session let’s find out who is actually the actors or stars behind this activity and why is it so???

The involved parties (participants and spectators) are likely to be both male and female between 17 and 25 years old. Some illegal races involve a loosely affiliated group of youths hanging around an abandoned area of town. According to studies, the majority of these street racers are workers who only earn about RM1200 a month. There are also some who are dropouts, while others are unemployed.

They have no other interests or hobbies. To them, street racing is a temporary means of escaping from the pressures and obstacles they face in their lives on a daily basis. It helps build their self-esteem and satisfies their hero worship mentality. They also see it as a way to be different and to rebel against the world.For them, street racing is a means to establish relations with others like them, a chance to make friends with others who share their interests and understand their problems.

This is something that they find difficult to do in their daily lives.It isn't practical expect these wild, free spirited street racers to practice self-restraint. It might be better to rely on a more a more effective enforcement organisation.

There are those among them who hold strongly to a code of conduct that emphasises respect, honour and discipline. They are disgusted by the actions of other racers who gamble, take drugs and violate traffic regulations.Besides that, the new breed of street racing revolves mainly around the modification of imported sports cars and compact cars.

There are now a plethora of companies making affordable aftermarket parts that can greatly increase these small cars' horsepower for a reasonable amount of money. Because of this, street racing has again become very popular among teenagers with a need for speed.

Alright I think nothing much to that I can comment on this. That's all for now...

Blogging in now and ready to discuss the fifth question which is which group of people do you think that involved with illegal street racing.This question is quite easily I think because with your logical thinking immediately you will recognise the youngsters as the majority of person that involved with this kind of activity.This is because they full with the spirit to try everything that they encountered. The youngsters in this context refer to the people around the age of 17 to 23 years old. Izyan is correct when she said that kids from 14 years old of age are among this bunch of daredevils but i will like to keep this discussion to the scope where illegal street racers are the extreme people that totally involved in this activity. I don't think that 14 years old kids are massively involved in this activity and I do agree with Khairy when he said that the age will not come to 25 years due to the factors that he had explained in his post which is they will eventually realizes that what they are doing right now is just a waste.

As I have said youngsters are the one that involved massively in this activity because hey love to try and I bet all of my readers do understand what i'm trying to say. As the ‘freshy’ in everything of course we would like to try the thing that some people perceives as exciting and unfortunately illegal street racing is on the list. Factors such as reduce of the density of seriousness from the media and peer pressure are the things that contributed to the arisen of this problem as have discussed in my last post. When youngsters are exposed to this kind of exposure they are easily influenced by it and it brings us to the problem that we are facing right now.

For the car type of racers, it is the same. They love the thrill when they are in the speed and the situation where adrenalines are injected into their body. For them, the excitement is beyond everything but the consequences are over their head at that time. What matter is they have the pleasure of it. But normally youngsters that their own car are the one that have the tendency to involved in illegal modification that links them to illegal racing. Of course, when you have a fast car you will try to show off and illegal street racing derives from it.

So, illegal street racing is monopolized by the youngsters but there are some cases where the older people are involved in this activity. So, as an advice to the people that want to try this thing to just forget about it. The risk is too high to be carry rather than the excitement.

well..happy fasting month for those who are muslims...

hm..even though it is first day of fasting..i don't have time to just sit around.well for the fifth question..which group of people do you think involve with illegal street racing. i do agree with izyan opinion that illegal motorcycle racing involve teenagers around 14 years old but i don't think they will reach age of 25 years old. the maximum age of those who are involved in my opinion is around 23 years old. that's because i think by the time they reach 24 years old..they will start to thinking that this act is just a waste of time and money..so they will start to move on leave those things behind.
as for cars..i don't think those who are involved is as young as 17. its because no matter how rich their parents are, they won't let their children to drive such a powerful car like nissan skyline or evolution lancer and if they allow their children to drive an ordinary car such as wira, waja and so on, i don't think they will let their children to do a modification to their cars. in my opinion those who are involved with illegal car racing always involve working people especially those who owns a workshop. sometimes it also involves ipt students because they live far away from their parents and sometimes they will ask money with an excuse to buy a books, paying fees, but at the end all of the money will go to their cars.

It's holiday people! But I'm stuck here answering our fifth question, what a day!

There are many complains involved people who join illegal street racing, but do you know who are they? What type of people? Young or old? and why?

For me, in illegal street racing for motorcycle, it involved teenagers around 14 to 25 years old. They involved themselves in illegal street racing because of many things such as family problem and being attracted by friends. Sometimes, family itself who just let their children lurking around and do their own stuff. In places like at a village, parent give permission to their children especially boys enjoy themselves and that's give them somekind of freedom to involved in illegal street racing. Being attracted by bad friends also dangerous. Teenagers thinks they understand them better than their parents and start to involved in illegal street racing.

As for cars, it involved people around 17 years old, up to matured people. That's because they got licences (I think!). It's also because they got money to modified their cars much better rather than motorcycle and there are many shops selling stuff for cars such as seats, powerful engine and the list go on and on... Being attracted by movies such as "To Fast To Furious" and "Kl Drift" gives somekind of inspiration towards people to involved in illegal street racing especially cars and motorcycle. And also this country highways also a good spot to 'drift' and express themselves or forget their problems.

Even teenagers themselves hate illegal street racing such as in http://www.malaysiakini.com/rentakini/60998. So, do not get yourself involved in illegal street racing if you can...

Hello! There has been a long time I di not wrote anything in this blog...I'm back!!!

What are the measures that had been taken by the authority to counter the problem?

I do agree with the guys opinion about countering illegal street racing in our country, but as always I have my own opinion about this topic. "It's the authority job to handle the cases. not us!" you maybe heard those line almost everyday, right? As I said before, people do not care what happen to there surrounding unless that bad thing happen to them.

There is many measures already taken by the authority to counter illegal steet racing problem, but few of them ever work. What happen? Is their actions not effective enough? It's not the authority, it's the people involved in illegal street racing itself at fault here...

Having "speed trap" at almost every roads and highways is one of the measures taken by the authority. There is reported cases involved illegal street racing especially in highways. Eventhough measures taken such as fine and warning and being lock up, there still many street racer 'haunting' our country roads.

Another measures taken by the authority is what we called 'road-block'. There is many places that being the 'hot-spot' to become illegal street racing home base. There is always police there, that's for sure. Sometimes the illegal street racer can get away with it and sometimes they can't. That's because the police is smarter than them. Their vehicle much cooler than illegal street racer vehicle.

Simply put, wherever there is illegal street racing happen, there is the authority to counter them.

Hello guys... long time no see... Seems like there are a lot of things need to be discuss as we keep on thinking about our interesting topic which is “Illegal Street racing”. As we can see, there are plenty of comments that have been made by our colleague regarding this issue. The thing that catches my eye and makes me wanna go further into our discussion is the issue of the measures taken by authority to “combat” this problem as being said by Khairi in his post. When looking into this issue, there are one question pops up in my mind. Guess what??? Hmm... Are they effective or not???

Now, let’s get into my point of view. Legalising street racing is not the solution. The government recently proposed turning street racing into a tourist attraction. They believe that the Mat Rempit (street racers) who partakes in such activities is natural performers, and that the stunts they perform can be a tourist magnet. Besides that, they even suggested that certain roads be closed off at specified times to allow these street racers to indulge in their passion. They reason that if roads can be closed in order to hold a Pasar Malam, it would be alright to close them for street racing as well.

They also think that it wouldn't do any good to hold such activities in remote Sepang or Batu Tiga, because the distance would discourage spectators from gathering. If we think deeply their suggestions are certainly worth considering. However, there is a difference between closing roads to hold a Pasar Malam and closing roads for street racing. They are completely different activities and must therefore be managed in different ways.

Other than that, there are also people who approaches street racing with the idea that it is a recreational activity for youngsters. The idea that street racing is fine so long as it is held at an appropriate time and place certainly seems to offer an opportunity for a better solution than the hard-line tactics currently employed by the police. However, there are some points that need to be considered. If the matter is not handled properly, it could send the wrong message and cause street racers to think that everything they do is sanctioned.

The noise caused by illegal street racing affects the peace of the neighbourhood and disturbs the lives of residents. This is the reason why citizens dislike street racing. Before deciding which roads to close to accommodate these street racers, the authorities ought to take into consideration the effect it might have on nearby residential areas, the activities of business establishments, and traffic conditions in the area. This means that they should make sure that the location they finally pick is a secluded one, and it's the reason why they wanted to open the race course to street races. Firstly, its' far away from any residential areas; secondly, it's safe.

From my opinion the responsible parties should consider working together with these disciplined racers to organise and manage weekend street races under safe conditions. This will reduce the number of accidents and help ensure that innocents are not affected. However, other racers might not be able to hold to the higher standards and disciplines required for road racing. They might only be in it for the adrenaline rush, and lack the discipline or the expertise to make it in amateur racing. They should work together with the parties involve to set up short, mid and long term plans for promoting and regulating recreational racing activities.

Organisers of such events must adhere to safety standards. It would be best if an insurance company were willing to offer coverage for the event. Accident prevention and response measures, as well as responsibility for any that happen, must be determined. In addition, steps must be taken stop and prevent illegal betting from subverting such activities.

To add more, government should work together with organisations experienced with racing events to come up with professional regulations for street racing. They must come up with a racing activity that is safe, has a shallow learning curve, and to the taste of the young street racers. Simply closing a few roads won't solve anything. They should work together with the Sepang race course and the Formula One organisers.

Hmm... Confusing, confusing, confusing... Such a complicated things right??? We do understand the need for speed, but untill when this deasease will disapear in our world??? Only God knows that...

It`s me, Mohd Shaffi Bin Mahadi(A124280)...We almost come to the end of our discussion and this post, as Khairy have posted his comment..It's about the measures taken by authority to counter this problem...We are discussing about what is actually that the authority have done to annihilate this problem once and for all and whether it is effective or not....

As Khairy have mentioned about the actions taken by authority such as setting up a road block and patrolling at the roads. It is important for the authority to observe for this activity. It to ensure that they know that they are been watching. Besides that, the government also had legislate a law that allow the authorities to detain and charge not only to those people who are who were involved in the racing but also those who watch the race. This measurement is to avoid people getting involved in such kind of activity. If we let the people that went to watch illegal street racing just like that it will be as we are releasing the source of provocation to the construction of this activity. Simply says, less people interested in it the lesser people who are going to join it.

The measurement looks like there is enough actions taken but is it effective.We got the people to observe, to seize and plus the law that supported us but where is the loopholes? There is a loopholes since the problem is still there just like Khairy said. From my opinion, I believe that the execution is not enough. Eventhough if we have all policemen to watch the road all the time, it will not do anything if all of them are fall asleep all the time. The analogy is to highlight that full commitment is one of the aspect that is essential to ensure this thing to work out.

Besides that I do thing that the law is not heavier enough to counter this problem. If we made it more stricter, it will force them to step back. For example, if we enacted a law that that provides an imprisonment to almost 20 years for those people that involved illegal street racing, I bet they will think a thousand times if they want to get involve in this activity.

well, since not much for me to do this weekend, so I decided to write on this blog. Well previously I’ve talked about the effects of the illegal street racing towards the public that we all know is a very hazardous. Hm..for now I’m going to write on what the authorities had done to oppose this illegal act. I bet everyone knows that lot of measures had been taken by the authorities to counter the problem. One of the actions taken is by setting up a road block and also patrolling at the roads that was identified as a venue for the race. Not only that, the government also took a drastic measure by legislating a law that allow the authorities especially police to detain and charge not only the those who were involved in the racing but also those who watch the race at the side of the street. Furthermore the government had also legislate an existing law regarding safety on road by penalize those who were arrested on charge of committing an illegal racing with heavier punishment. Well, so far, we had seen that the government had taken lot of action to deal with this problem but the question is that does these actions effective? Well, frankly speaking I don’t think that the measures taken by the authorities are effective and why did I say that? Well, the answer lies in front of our own eyes. The problem is still there. No matter how many road-blocks and patrols take place we still can see a racing take place. These illegal racers seem do not care even though they realize that they will face a heavy punishment if they got caught. Why does this happen even though lot of actions taken by the authorities? There’s only one answer to this question and that is these measures taken by the authorities to combat this problem are not effective and a new and more effective solution need to be think of. Well..i’ve been writing a lot here and it seems I need to go now. Till we meet again guys…chow sin chee….

hehe.. It has been a long time since I last published a post here. Well I couldn’t help it. Wow..looks like the topic on illegal street racing had become more interesting. Seems like my friends in their post above had talked about the effects of illegal street racing towards public and some of them also talked about a disastrous consequence to the family of the perpetrator It is an interesting topic to talk about and I think I’m going to go on with this topic but I won’t touch about effects to their family.. Well..as I’ve talked about in my previous posts, illegal street racing is an act that go against the law of this country and it is without a doubt that each illegal act will have a very negative impact not only to those who were committing the act but also the people around them that is the public. well, what could the impacts to the public? hm..one of the impact is that it will not only endanger those who were involved in this act but also other road users. Why do I say that? It is because these people especially the motorcyclist or also widely known as ‘mat rempit’. These Mat Rempit as quoted by shaffi earlier are infamous for their "Superman" stunts, a stunt where they like flying on their motorcycles and this of course will endanger not only them but also others. You guys maybe curious why did I say that this action will endanger other road users. This of course could happen as when they were doing this action their control over their vehicle will be lesser with their feet is nowhere near the main brake, and if the suddenly lose control, the probability of crashing with other vehicle is very high. other dangerous action that they performed on their motorcycles also include the kind where they weave in-between moving and stationary traffic at high-speed during racing. This action according to shaffi earlier is also known as "Cilok". This is dangerous as they could collide with other vehicle as they were weaving. Other than endangered road users, another effect that can be add on here is that they also cause a public disorder. This always happen when they were racing at midnight near a housing area especially the ‘mat rempit’ where the sound that came from their motorcycle is very noisy due to a modifications made by them. Once again with me, Mohd Shafi Bin Mahadi (A124280) to continue our discussion on the topic of illegal street racing...If in my last post i did mentioned about the factor of illegal street racing, in this brand new post i would like to further our discussion about the effect of illegal street racing...

When we are talking about the effect of illegal street racing, for the sake of this discussion it means the direct effect of what illegal street racing could bring to the people. In my opinion, the people that will be affected by the problem is the that person involved in that activity of course, their family, and the society.

First and foremost, the person or the perpetrator that did involved in the problem..What could happen to them?They could kill somebody by doing it, be killed and bring harms to a large number of people..There are various effect that this fellow daredevil could face when they decided to race. They could be lying in bed due to amputation of part of their body or it can be anything. The shame thing is they don't share the same thought with us and could not put this thing into their consideration before making a step into this activity.

Move on to the their family?What in the heaven could their family face? They could lost their son or daughter, face disgrace or oppression from the people for what their son or daughter had done. The best thing is they don't do anything.It's not their fault entirely. Maybe they can be blame a bit but in the end is the person that pull the trigger is doing what they are doing by their own awareness.

To the society, it could tarnish their image. For example, people will labelling our society with such image. It does leave a stain to us. Quoting a part of the article, " These Mat Rempit are infamous for their "Superman" stunts and other feats performed on their motorcycles. They are also notorious for their "Cilok", a kind of racing in which racers weave in-between moving and stationary traffic at high-speed ".Now that you have know, do you feel ashame about what this activity had bring to us.

It is a shame that most people can bare with this situation and close their eyes just like that. As i repeatedly said, if the society could not join hands to wipe out this problem it will be like an epidemic that still attached as part of society...

Hello...we meet,again...

As I told you before, there is two types of illegal street racing, that is involved motorcycles and cars. the picture I show you above shows that both is illegal and may cause many bad things towards the people (or animals) involved in it accidently or on their own free will.

Modified vehicles may makes it smoother, faster and powerful. But will it make the driver, passanger or the people watching the illlegal street racing events safe? eventhough the driver says that its safe but bad things could happen at any time and any place,right?

There is many cases involving illegal street racing accidents reports in newspaper and television. Innocents citizens got killed because of this unhealthy sport. Many tragic news involving illegal street racing happen not only in Malaysia but around the world. In Malaysia, things involving illegal street racing for motorcycle is involving the missing of Nurin Jazlin Jazimin whom believe being kinnaped by a group of 'mat rempit' in http://www.dancewithshadows.com/society/malaysia-sex-offenders.asp.

While in the west, the statistic for people involve in illegal street racing also high. In http://www.nhra.com/streetlegal/stats.html shows that there is rules that makes the illegal street racing forbidden. People sometimes do not care what happen to the family that their family members got killed by illegal street racing drivers and think its just another reality of life. But, if it's happen to them, they strated blame on the authority and the driver and started to share there grief with others.

Eventhough illegal street racing events happen in deserted roads in old days, now they have courage to even have a 'competition' in the middle of the town such as Kuala Lumpur! On of the busiest town in the world.

People on the street, and innocent citizens got the effect of illegal street racing...family and the authority got the effect of illegal street racing. The family I mention is the family of people who involved in illegal street racing. don't the illegal street racer thinks about their family opinion about what they are doing? Does it hurt their feeling or are they just let it go? If the illegal street racing driver got involved in an acccident, who would visit them? their family or their 'friends'? and who would take care of them...?

Authority or the goverment is doing there best to make illegal street racing in Malaysia become less occur. But, they need our helps and also the cooperation of the people involved in illegal street racing itself. there also news that police traffic officers got run down by the illegal street racer. Do they do not have mercy even to another human being? Even animals loved their children and clans, what about human?

As a conclusion to my opinion, I think that the people involved in illegal street racing should act with human nature not with animal instinct. There is an effect towards everything we do not only to us but to other people around us. We might hurt them accidently and we need to make amen for it.

It's me again, One-Fudley...

In the previous session we've discussed about the definition and also the causes of the "Illegal Street Racing" Hmm... Seems like this topic has become a very hot topic recently...

Every action that we take in our daily routine must have it's own effects towards we our own self and also people around us (public). It's goes the same with our hot discussion topic in this site, which is "Illegal Street Racing".

Could you guys guess, what are we going to discuss next about this topic??? Yeah! Bravo! That's right! Come on, let's get into the serious mood to discuss about it further...

More than 50 times each year, a participant or spectator dies as the result of an accident that occurs during an informally organized street race. Malaysia has had a long love affair with street racing. That love has been reflected in and magnified by popular culture. In the ’50s and ’70s, Hollywood romanticized the activity in movies like “Rebel Without a Cause” and “American Graffiti.” The current surge in street racing can be traced to few years ago when “The Fast and the Furious” hit the screens with its spectacular race scenes.

Today, street racing is a problem in almost every Malaysian community, as technology such as the Internet and text messaging have made it easy to stage underground races for substantial audiences.

Every weekend, in thousands of communities across Malaysian, street races are organized with different levels of sophistication. Some illegal races involve a loosely affiliated group of youths hanging around an abandoned area of town. Other street races are elaborate events complete with flaggers, timekeepers, lookouts, and scores of spectators. In fact, the level of sophistication can often be judged by how well equipped the lookouts are, some of the more complex events will arm the lookouts with police scanners and two-way radios.

These races usually take place in a remote area, primarily in industrial areas. A course is marked out to a distance of between one-eighth and one-quarter of a mile. The racers take their mark, a starter drops his arms, and the race is on.

Street races are exciting for all involved. Even the spectators get a thrill because they are witnessing something illegal, informal, and dangerous. This builds a sense of community among street racers and spectators. Unfortunately, it is a community in which even the spectators are at risk.

Street racers are not professional drivers and have never been formally trained. There is no chance for them to practice. They rely on their limited experience at high speeds and their adrenaline to get them through the race. Also, their vehicles have been modified beyond the manufacturers’ standards and engineering specs. The result of a racer pushing the capabilities of his or her vehicle can be a blown engine or a ton of sheet metal hurtling out of control into a crowd.

And the crowd is often way too close to the marked course of the race and not behind any protective barriers. Consequently, vehicle crashes at street races cause injuries to drivers, passengers, spectators, and even innocent bystanders. This criminal activity also has other effects that are less publicized. Public streets are marred by burning rubber of the vehicles’ tires and excessive wear and tear. The crowd that congregates creates noise issues and leaves behind a trail of vandalism and litter.

Fuhh... Now we know that we are in danger because of those illegal racers... So, whwt are waiting for??? Let's go to the nearest police station to report about this activity which happened around your screened-off area...

Hello and hey everyone... With me again, Mohd Shaffi Bin Mahadi (A124280).. Continuing talking about illegal street racing..In my last post, I did mentioned about the definition of illegal street racing..Now, I want to move on to the second question which is why illegal street racing occurred in Malaysia. Everything happens for a reason and in this case it is the same..In my opinion, I think there is one major factor contributing to the occurrence of Illegal Street racing in Malaysia.

First and foremost, we have to find out the core or the root of the problem and in this crisis it leads to the mind set of the society. What do it means actually? It means that how the society address this particular problem. The range is whether they hate it very much or they just assume it as a petty issue that is not worth enough to be bothered off. I want to quote a sentence from http://www.evostreetracers.com/about_faq.html that stated that "...strategic law enforcement is dependent on the current social values of society. Frequently it takes numerous deaths for a society to react to a problem, demand change from politicians, and for law enforcement to react..".So from that statement it shows that how the society thinks or addresses any particular problem including this problem are very essential.The people in large hold the power. They can form a government with it and if the society wants illegal street racing to be wiped out entirely from our society, it can be done. Pressure from the society will force our leader to put extra effort in countering this problem.

But as usual, every problem has its own barriers. In this context, the barrier is mass media.The government is trying to solve the problem but the mass media portraying it oppositely.Movies like "Evolusi KL Drift", "Impak Maksima" and "Fast and Furious" are making the task tougher than it has been. Now, the society eyes are derived but time will reveal the truth about how nasty this problem is. As a responsible society, everybody should join their hand and fight this problem with all manners. Surely, we don`t want to wait till the boiling point where it will explode. The time where all the perpetrators that committed illegal street racing are the king of the street. Till that happens, it means that we still have the time. The law enforcer should not be left alone to fight this problem and the society should join in with the force even tough it is not directly but indirect actions such as reporting the event of illegal street racing could be more than enough.

The problem derives from the society and from the society the cure will be found.

illegal street racing? in Malaysia? why?!

Why illegal street racing occured in Malaysia? there is many reasons listed in my brain right now. there is two types of illegal street racing, that is involved motorcycles and cars. both vehicles being modified to make it faster, lighter and looks "cool" and trendy.
things that make people interested in involving themselves in illegal street racing could be many...but for me there is 3 types of 'rules' or reasons that makes people especially teenagers got involved in this unhealthy 'sports'.

The 3 'rules' are : mass media, enviroment, personal problems. people might use mass media to learn more about street racing. mass media have many category of intertaiment that will make people attach to it such as drama, televisyen series, movies, newspaper, radio, advertisment and animations. the most attracted ones are movies and animations such as 'KL Drift', 'KL Menjerit' and 'Initial D'.

As for enviroment, Malaysia have many highways and roads with effective funtions and smooth tar. Many Malaysian citizens could care less about this unhealthy sports that happen around them. there just let it be and left the problem to the authority. even if there is some 'illegal street racing' happening just in front of their eyes, they look at it as if it's normal. but if something bad happen, they put the blaim to the authority or the goverment. things like this would make the people who involved in illegal street racing thinks that whatever they do is right in the eyes of the society.

The third reason is personal problems. people especially teenagers got involved in illegal street racing is because they want to 'left the reality worls thats suck' and enjoy their own created reality that is full of fantasy. things like family problems ang got involved in bad friends fit into personal category of reasons why illegal street racing occured in Malaysia. things like family split up or school problems might make teenagers fell depress with their life and started involed in illegal street racing. other reason is; family to busy with works and could care less about their children welfare and this would make them feel lonely started to think that their parents did not love them anymore and make friend with someone that they think might understand their problems...and suddenly got involve in illegal street racing.

So, people must think about positive things and do not make themselves involved in illegal street racing eventhough it's looks 'cool'...bye...
